Kanye West’s team is distancing the rapper from a former publicist accused of engaging in election fraud.

Publicist Trevian Kutti met with Ruby Freeman on January 4. Freeman is a Fulton County (Georgia) election worker who was targeted with claims of election fraud. Freeman told Reuters that Kutti tried to implicate her in election fraud and said she could be arrested. She pressured Freeman into confessing in exchange for help. Trevian Kutti was associated with Kanye West’s own presidential campaign bid in 2020.

But Pierre Rougier, a spokesperson for West, distanced the rapper from the election fraud claims.

“Treviant Kutti was not associated with Kanye West or any of his enterprises at the times of the facts that are reported in these articles or since these facts occurred,” Rougier told Reuters. The spokesperson would not answer additional questions about whether Kutti worked for West at other times or if the two were aware of one another.

A former bio of Kutti’s said she was hired by Kanye’s team of publicists on September 2018 and served as the rapper’s Director of Operations.

That biography on the Women’s Global Initiative has been removed from the group’s website. Freeman and her daughter Wandrea Moss received hundreds of death threats and harassing messages after Trump claimed the women had pulled ‘suitcases’ of fraudulent ballots from under a table.

Kanye West came up short in the 2020 election, but the rapper says he plans to run again in 2024.

The rapper legally changed his name to Ye in October 2021. The name given to him by his mother, Donda, is no more. “It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything,” the rapper said in 2018. Rappers are no strangers to changing their names, but Kanye’s journey has been an interesting one for sure.
