Rep. Baldeh: Republicans using conspiracy theories to limit voting rights

MADISON – The Wisconsin State Assembly met today to vote on a slate of Republican bills that would place increased restrictions on Wisconsin voters’ access to the ballot box. The bills were debated as fissures continue to grow within the Wisconsin GOP over how to address disproven allegations regarding the 2020 Wisconsin Presidential election, won by Joe Biden. Representative Samba Baldeh (D-Madison) issued the following statement regarding the session:

“Assembly Republicans are using the unfounded and disproven conspiracy theories of a fringe group of far-right fanatics as justification for making it harder for Wisconsinites to vote. It is time to put the 2020 election to rest and focus on how we can improve the lives of the people we represent.”

Among the bills, that Assembly debated on Thursday was a series of measures aimed at placing limits on local elections officials, a popular target of those who continue to insist without evidence that the 2020 election was stolen.

“I have complete confidence in the work done by election officials in Madison, Dane County, and the State of Wisconsin.”
