Just when you thought the whole universe was flocking to the Garden State to enjoy a little Jersey Shore summer, it turns out its only beings from this planet clogging up our roads, restaurants, and beaches.

It turns out that the one tourism weakness we have in New Jersey is with aliens. Yes, the kind with big eyes, no mouth, and a silver spaceship. Those aliens.

We’re not sure if the aliens can’t swim, the sand gets caught in their three-toed feet, or they’re allergic to hairspray or pork roll, but aliens apparently avoid New Jersey at all cost.

Maybe they don’t have EZ Pass. Whatever the reason, New Jersey has a disappointingly low number of UFO sightings, according to a report by Stacker.

As a matter of fact, the Garden State ranks near the bottom of the nation, coming in at #46, with only 30 sightings per 100,000.

There have been some spectacular ones in New Jersey, however, like the one in 2001, which was witnessed by a police lieutenant and many others that featured a V-shaped formation of lights flying over the New Jersey Turnpike.

And also for the record, I’m having some fun here, but I have seen a UFO myself over the ocean in Cape May from the porch of a room at Angel of the Sea. It was bright white, silent, and just disappeared, and trust me, I wasn’t laughing that night.

Of note is that almost three-quarters of all UFO sighting reports in the United States occur between 4 p.m. and midnight, and tend to peak between 9 and 10 p.m. Food for thought next time you’re out scoping for alien life. Keep reading to see which states have had the most UFO sightings.
