Washington State is No. 1 in UFO sightings in U.S.: report

Hunting unidentified flying objects?

Your best chances of seeing a UFO happens to be in Washington State, according to new data from the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC).

NUFROC, which has been around since 1974, reports Washington residents have reported 6,812 UFO sightings, dating back to the 1940s. That’s about 88 sightings per 100,000 residents — more than double the rate of reports from most states.

New York checks in at 45th on the list with 28 sightings per 100,000 residents or 5,528 sightings.

The NUFORC’s national headquarters are located in the Evergreen State and it is the first place the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recommends pilots to report UFO sightings, according to Axios Richmond’s Karri Peifer.

UFO sightings are so commonplace now that the Pentagon is opening an office called the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) to track UFOs seen by pilots in the armed forces.

The Pentagon said the AARO will “detect, identify and attribute objects of interest…to mitigate any associated threats to the safety of operations and national security.”
