Mysterious objects seen over several states

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – Southern Arizonans are baffled by strange lights spotted in the early morning sky on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Mysterious object seen over Tucson

The first object was observed at about 5:20 a.m. in Tucson.

As seen in the University of Arizona Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences webcam, it appears to be flying to the west or northwest at a seemingly low altitude.

After the object goes out of view, another is seen descending at the extreme left of the camera’s view.

Strange sightings are not alien to Arizonans. In fact, state 48 is a hotspot for unidentified flying objects (UFO), ranking in the top six states at the National UFO Reporting Center.

“I have very seldom seen a piece of footage which seems to capture two entirely separate UFO events,” said Nick Pope, a former UFO investigator for the British Ministry of Defense. “It’s like two for the price of one. It’s an amazing piece of footage and a great catch.”

Pope, who is on the popular TV series Ancient Aliens, lives in Tucson. He says the U.K. and the U.S. governments have a similar process of elimination.

“First of all, you would interview the witnesses,” said Pope. “I understand this is picked up on a remote camera, but some people around other parts of the U.S. did see it too. So, the first step is to identify and speak to as many people as possible to try to piece together a coherent picture of what happened. The second step is to reach out to the military. It may be that there is some military activity that might explain a UFO sighting, whether it’s aircraft exercising or dropping flares. Radar is also very important. A visual sighting corroborated by radar evidence is priceless.”

According to WFIE, similar objects were seen over areas of Kentucky as well.

Meteorologist Arden Gregory said those were likely SpaceX Starlink Satellites that were visible for a few minutes. According to Planetary Science Institute (PSI), astronomers agree.

“A neat sight for sure, but nothing to be worried about,” Gregory said.

“The object moving at a very constant and level speed, it does say to me that it’s likely to be a satellite,” said Pope. “The second object is rather more interesting in the way it appeared to be falling to earth. Again, with my skeptical hat on, I would say it’s likely to be a fireball meteor. I would love it to be aliens because that would be the most interesting and fun explanation. Sadly, in this case, I don’t think that’s the answer. But if we are going to make first contact, I would love it to be Tucson!”
