Wild conspiracy that US emergency alert test will erupt ‘5G zombies’ is laughable
Hilarious conspiracies are circling in relation to the October 4 emergency alert test – including one that says some will turn into ‘5G zombies’.
FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) are conducting a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System this week to ensure the system works correctly.
October 4 emergency alert test
The US government announced this back in August, revealing all citizens will get an alert to their cell phones, radios and TVs at 2:20pm ET on October 4.
The national alerts will test the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts, which would both sound in a nationwide emergency.
You will receive a text to your phone that says: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
A one-minute alert on radios and TVs will also say: “This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.”
The national test is designed to minimize confusion and warn citizens of what a real emergency alert would be like.
It’s not the first time a test has been conducted. It’s actually been done twice before – but this one is the talk of the internet.
‘5G zombie’ conspiracy swirls
A wild conspiracy theory that the emergency alert will prompt 5G towers to turn some of the population into zombies is circling.
Yes, you heard that right. People on Twitter and TikTok are saying the 5G signal will set off a virus that will start a zombie apocalypse.
“Turn off your cell phones on October 4th. The EBS is going to “test” the system using 5G. This will activate the Marburg virus in people who have been vaccinated. And sadly turn some of them into zombies,” one viral post says.
Another adds: “Guys they’re turning on the 5G Wednesday at 11:20am and everyone that’s been vaccinated for covid will turn into a zombie.”
It’s not the only dark October 4 prediction circling either. Some think cell phones will be hacked, while others say there will be a nationwide blackout.
Conspiracy cracks up Twitter
The conspiracy is making people laugh on Twitter because it’s so crazily far-fetched – and obviously not true.
One person joked: “I can’t wait to mark myself ‘safe’ from the October 4th 5G zombie apocalypse.”
“I love reading conspiracy theories created by Facebookers. They will write the most unhinged s**t and then go through it and capitalize random words. Currently reading ABOUT how the 5G towers are GONNA cause the zombie apocalypse ON October 4th,” laughed another.
A third person added: “Jesus Christ it takes almost nothing for people to jump into conspiracies now it’s literally an alert test we had them on cable tv all the time back in the day.”
“The October 4th alert conspiracies are crazy like nah people are dumb as f**k,” someone else tweeted.
