The former special counsel investigating allegations that President Donald Trump conspired to overturn the 2020 election said that on Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan contacted the White House in fear over protesters at the Capitol, according to newly released documents.
Jack Smith said that former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said in an interview with his office that Jordan, the Urbana Republican who also chairs the House Judiciary Committee, had been in contact with the White House that afternoon, according to transcript of a closed-door deposition published Dec. 31.
