New Pentagon task force to investigate UFOs

There’s a new task force that will detect, analyze and catalog Unidentified Flying Objects, UFOs (or in military speak Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, UAP).

The Department of Defense announced on Friday that it had approved creating the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force on Aug. 4. The Department of the Navy will lead this task force.

“The Department of Defense and the military departments take any incursions by unauthorized aircraft into our training ranges or designated airspace very seriously and examine each report,” the DOD said in its news release. “This includes examinations of incursions that are initially reported as UAP when the observer cannot immediately identify what he or she is observing.”

This announcement follows the DOD release of three unclassified Navy videos earlier this year. The videos, one taken in November 2004 and the other two in January 2015, had been on the internet since their unauthorized releases in 2007 and 2017.

“DOD is releasing the videos in order to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos,” the DOD said in an April 27 news release. “The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as ‘unidentified.’”
