Video of Malfunctioning Kentucky Voting Machine Is Authentic — But Requires Context

The footage allegedly showed a Kentucky voting machine malfunctioning as a voter tried to cast a vote for former President Donald Trump.

A video allegedly showing a machine not allowing a voter to cast their ballot for Trump went viral on social media.

Mary Trump, the niece of the former U.S. president, said of the rumor: “In the event you needed more incentive to vote for Kamala Harris.”

A user posted of the photo on X, in jest, “I am Canadian but USA doesn’t require voter ID, so figured I would drive across the border and vote.”

Two ballot boxes were set aflame in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, destroying hundreds of ballots.

The claim bore a resemblance to several others that Snopes has fact-checked.

The U.S. president was speaking at a Democratic campaign office in New Hampshire two weeks before the 2024 presidential election.

The image recirculated on social media in October 2024 after first appearing online in December 2023.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed an executive order requesting the state to audit its voter rolls.
